Reflection on Group Presentations: The Importance of Public Speaking In class we had four different groups present on the importance of public speaking, including my own group. Even though the topic was the same, each group had a different way of doing things, and it was interesting to see how they compared. Some groups were more polished, some were more persuasive, and others struggled a little, but in the end I think I learned something from watching each one. In this paper I’ll go through my thoughts on each group in the order they presented. Group One: A Solid Start Group One went first, which I know is never easy, but I think they handled it well. They seemed organized and they didn’t waste time figuring out who was supposed to talk when. The transitions between speakers were smooth, and I liked that they explained public speaking in a way that made sense for real life. They mentioned interviews, leadership, and just regular everyday situations, which made their points easy t...

A Roadmap to Perfect Presentations Introduction: The presentations we watched were split into groups that all spoke about an important yet different stage of becoming a confident and effective speaker. All groups worked together to provide a systematic pathway through the steps, starting with the fundamentals, moving on to preparation, refining performance, and ending with the flexibility of the different types of presentations. After all groups had presented, I was reminded that these lessons apply beyond the classroom to communication in every setting including meetings, interviews, and professional contexts. Group 1: The Essential Tricks for a Great Presentation The opening Group, Group 1, provided the foundation of effective public speaking by concentrating on tricks presented each presenter should have. These tricks were not shortcuts but rather strategies that turn presentations into engaging and memorable experiences. The first lesson was understanding your audience. Befor...

Review of the Four Groups of Chapters The slide presents four groups of chapters, each focusing on different aspects of building and delivering great presentations. These groups can be seen as a roadmap, guiding us from the early steps of understanding presentation fundamentals to the mastery of different presentation styles. In this review, I will go through each group—Chapters 1–5, 6–8, 9–12, and 13–17—analyzing their importance, what they aim to teach, and how they collectively prepare us for becoming confident, effective communicators. Group 1: Chapters 1, 2, 3, & 5 – The Important Tricks for a Great Presentation The first group of chapters is the foundation of the book: it provides the important tricks for a great presentation . Any journey to mastering public speaking and presentation skills must begin with a clear understanding of basic techniques. Tricks in this sense are not shortcuts, but rather the smart strategies that make presentations engaging, memorable, and per...

Reflection #1      In my speech class, we were required to give and watch presentations. My group, which was group 2, was given chapters 4,6,7, and 8. The presenters in my group were: Michael Acosta, Sophia Candelario (Me), Leonardo Santana, Ruth Arias, Ernesto Vazquez, Keven Muniz, Ruben Borrero, and Carlos Hernandez. Our presentation's main focus was building strong foundations for effective speeches, from developing a topic and researching it to supporting ideas and organizing a presentation.      I was very nervous that from the jump we have a group presentation but even from my group I have learned a lot. From my fellow group and I - I have learned how to better manage speech anxiety, the craft of public, and how to better understand/listen when it comes to public speaking. Managing speech anxiety is a big one for me. I now better understand that being prepared for your speech and not being uncertain in your speech will help you build your confidence a...

Learning from My Peers: Reflections on Speech Class Presentations Public speaking is not just about standing in front of a room and talking. It is about preparation, delivery, credibility, and connecting with an audience in a meaningful way. Throughout this speech class, my peers and I were able to explore various aspects of public speaking through chapter-based presentations. Each group was responsible for teaching us key lessons from assigned chapters, and together, we covered the entire process of becoming better presenters. In this blog-style reflection, I will share what I learned from each group’s presentation, what stood out most to me, and how the chapters connect to my own journey. Group 1: Tricks for a Great Presentation (Chapters 1, 2, 3, & 5) The first group focused on the foundational tricks to delivering a great presentation. They reminded us that even the most experienced speakers start by mastering the basics: knowing your audience, organizing your thoughts, and kee...
